Tom Beere’s 93rd-minute winner sent AFC Wimbledon fans wild on Saturday and gave Neil Ardley’s men a 1-0 win over Accrington Stanley in the first leg of their League Two play-off semi-final. And you can expect the determined Dons to do enough at the Crown Ground tonight, to seal their place at Wembley.
Ardley’s Wombles side appear to have saved their best away form for the perfect moment this season.
The south London club snatched the final play-off spot following 10 points from their last four away trips, including impressive wins at Plymouth Argyle and Wycombe.
Contrastingly, away-day specialists Stanley have struggled to break teams down at the Crown Ground, having drawn six of the last 11 on their own patch, and victory over relegated York City has been their only home triumph in the last four.
Of the two sides, Wimbledon are the ones who boast the most prolific striker, with Lyle Taylor netting five in his last eight outings and 21 goals this season.
Taylor has also been first goalscorer in the last four games he’s scored in, meaning 9/2 for the Montserrat striker to score first could be an excellent bet.
However, while the Dons boast Taylor and an enviable defensive record –conceding just once in their last seven games -, Stanley have only lost once at home in 2016, so a draw is the most likely outcome.
