Tranmere manager Les Parry has said he’s not overly concerned by the fact that his team are currently in the relegation zone.
The Merseyside team sit 22nd at the moment with 10 points from their first 11 games.
But Parry has said that the reason for this lowly placing is that they’ve found themselves facing many of the teams who will be competing to win League One this season.
“If you look at the league table I think we’ve played seven or eight of the top ten in our 11 games,” said Parry.
“We’ve had a start where we’ve been playing teams in form but the good thing about that is we’re still in touch with everybody,” he added.
Parry does have a point, his team have had to face Bournemouth, Brighton and Southampton amongst others.
But the former physio did concede that his side need to do well this weekend when they take on bottom of the table Brentford.
Although it’s early in the season, a win for either side would be a big result as they battle to avoid the drop.
The Bees come into the game with just one win in their last six games and they will be just as desperate for the points as Tranmere.
Tranmere are rated at 11/8 to beat Brentford and will be buoyed by the they haven’t lost at home since mid August.
Brentford are priced at 15/8 and their manager Andy Scott will be mindful that if they lose this game they could quickly find themselves left behind at the bottom.
That’s because after this crunch game, their next three League One encounters are against high flying Bournemouth, promotion chasing Peterborough and rapidly improving Exeter City.
Tranmere have another bottom of the table clash against Walsall and will want some momentum to take into that game.
It’s 7/1 to be 2-1 to Tranmere. See the full NPower League One betting odds market here.
