There’s reason to believe AFC Wimbledon can topple MK Dons

Unless you’ve been living in a cave for the last 14 years, you probably know that AFC Wimbledon and MK Dons don’t like each other very much.

So it was rather a big deal when Wimbledon beat Oxford United 3-1 on Saturday to climb into 10th spot in League One, putting them above the Dons in the league pyramid for the first time in history.

And at odds of 7/4, there’s plenty of reason to believe that Neil Ardley’s men can finish the season above the Buckinghamshire outfit.

AFC have really hit their stride on the goalscoring front of late, netting 10 times in their last five league outings, with the lightning-quick Lyle Taylor and the robust Dominic Poleon teaming up to great effect.

They’ve also proved difficult to break down – especially on the road – conceding just five times in as many away fixtures, becoming the first visitors to keep a clean sheet at Sixfields in 28 games, dating back to August 2015.

With MK winless in six League One games, it seems the pair could be set for a season of opposite fortunes.

That means the 7/1 for Wimbledon to win home and away against their rivals in League One looks like excellent value, especially as they won at Stadium mk back in October 2014, when the pair last met.

It’s also 7s for Ardley’s charges to start next season a division above Karl Robinson’s men. With just two points separating the Wombles from the play-offs and the Dons just three above the drop zone, that looks a tempting price indeed.

Meanwhile, the most optimistic of fans at Kingsmeadow can back their boys to reach the Premier League by 2021-22 at the mammoth odds of 100/1.

With AFC Bournemouth having made it from League Two to Premier League in six seasons, it certainly isn’t an impossible task.

AFC Wimbledon are next in action against Swindon Town on Saturday, with 21/20 for the hosts to continue their winning streak.
