Nigel Adkins will be without the services of striker Lee Barnard as he bids to mark his first game as manager of Southampton with a victory away at MK Dons.
Barnard is suspended after getting sent off in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat to Swindon, meaning that Adkins is likely to go with Rickie Lambert and David Connolly in attack.
Adam Lallana is also out after undergoing an operation on a knee injury as Adkins prepares to pick his first team since leaving Scunthorpe to take over as manager of Southampton after the sacking of Alan Pardew.
Southampton are 6/4 to pick up the victory, but to do so they will have to overcome their miserable start to the season, which has resulted in them being positioned in the relegation places after four games.
On the plus side, they do have a fine recent record against MK Dons, including four victories last season across League One and the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
The home side are 11/8 to put an end to this sequence and gain the three points, which would see them move joint top of the table with Peterborough and Carlisle on 12 points from five fixtures.
They can welcome back their captain Dean Lewington from suspension as they attempt to stretch their 100 per cent winning record at home in the league this season to three games.
Lambert scored a hat-trick last season as Southampton left the stadium:mk with a 3-0 victory and he is 5/1 to open the scoring again this time.
A repeat of the 3-0 Southampton victory is 25/1. See the complete MK Dons vs Southampton match betting market.
