Numerous clubs will have promotion aspirations in an open-looking League One this season and that means that some decent value can be found in the betting markets.
Huddersfield – 5/1 to win League One
Successive play-off defeats could earn Huddersfield an unwanted tag among tipsters, but this looks to be the season that Lee Clark can lead the Terriers to the title.
Some exciting youngsters have been brought in over the summer for a team with one of the best budgets in the league and Jordan Rhodes is sure to be among the goals again.
Brentford – 5/1 to be promoted
Brentford have been good in pre-season under new manager Uwe Rosler and they could prove the ultimate dark horses in the League One promotion race.
Rosler is certain to have the team well organised and the captures of Celtic youngster Niall McGinn on loan and last season’s League Two top scorer Clayton Donaldson are smart pieces of business.
Leyton Orient – 9/1 for promotion
Leyton Orient only just missed out on the play-offs last season and the fact they have somehow kept hold of all of their prized assets, including manager Russell Slade, can only be seen as a positive.
Improving on last season is the minimum that should be expected from Leyton Orient.
Scunthorpe – 9/2 for promotion
Scunthorpe are surely only among the promotion favourites because they were relegated from the Championship last season, but the fact they still lack a proven goalscorer may mean that they struggle again.
Sheffield United – 9/1 to win League One
Danny Wilson may have brought a freshness to Sheffield United, but they may be forced to rely too heavily on some of their young talents to mount a serious automatic promotion challenge, although they are solid play-off contenders.
Bournemouth – 6/1 for promotion
Bournemouth may have reached the play-offs last season, but their squad looks weaker on paper than 12 months ago.
