Carlisle boss Greg Abbott has indicated that League One is a tight division and any club would be foolish to assume that they will waltz to the title.

Abbott’s young team have made an impressive start to the campaign and are still unbeaten after five games to sit second in the table.

However, they face arguably their biggest challenge next when travelling to current leaders Sheffield Wednesday, where they will be aiming to produce another solid defensive display.

Carlisle have only let in three goals in their five league outings to date and are 4/1 to move to the head of the division with a victory.

Abbott told the Carlisle News & Star that his players will not go into the game with any different mentality to that which has served them well in their five games so far.

He said: “This league is going to be tight. If you look at Sheffield Wednesday’s squad, they will be around the top end of the division, but I don’t see anybody after five games as the team to beat.

“Anybody who gets it into their head that they have got easy games coming up will get their backsides tanned a bit. We consider ourselves a team that is capable of beating most teams in this league.

“I don’t think the players have that much fear. They go into games with a game plan, knowing how hard they have to work with and without the ball, knowing they have to give an honest performance.”

Sheffield Wednesday are 8/11 to maintain their 100 per cent winning start at home, while they have not conceded in their opening two fixtures at Hillsborough.

Furthermore, Sheffield Wednesday can also draw on the fact that they have won three of the last four meetings between the two teams, with the other clash ending all-square.

Sheffield Wednesday are the 3/1 favourites to be crowned champions of League One this season, with Carlisle still available at 25/1. See the whole League One winners market.
