It looks to be a case of when and not if Roy Hodgson’s time in charge of Liverpool will come to an end.
Sir Alex Ferguson may be good friends with the former-Fulham boss, but his side looks set to hasten Hodgson’s exit with a comfortable win this Sunday – United should be backed at 8/13 in the FA Cup betting.
United fell at the third round last season after a humbling defeat to bitter rivals Leeds United. Ominously for Hodgson, Ferguson has admitted he’s learnt the lessons from that day.
He said: “In hindsight I could have picked a stronger team. I won’t be making that mistake this time.”
It doesn’t bode well for Liverpool who have won just three of their last 11 games in all competitions. Their 3-1 defeat away to Blackburn Rovers in the week means the Reds have now won just once away in the league this season.
They have travelled to Old Trafford already this term and slumped to a 3-2 defeat thanks to three brilliant goals from Dimitar Berbatov. The Bulgarian is 28/1 to repeat his hat-trick heroics on Sunday.
United – who have picked up 31 from a possible 33 points at home this season – should come out on top in this clash at 8/13.
However, it promises to be a high scoring game. All of Liverpool’s last four visits to Old Trafford have yielded at least three goals and with Hodgson’s men keeping just three clean sheets in their last 11 matches, a bet on over 2.5 goals could be well worth considering.
