In what is being billed as another David v Goliath scenario in this year’s FA Cup final, Hull are the big outsiders to land the club’s first ever major trophy when they take on Arsenal at Wembley.

Then again, those who have already written the 7/1 shots off as also-rans for the domestic season’s crowing fixture, ought to remind themselves of what happened just 12 months ago.

No one gave relegated Wigan a prayer against Manchester City, only for Ben Watson to pop up with a last-gasp headed winner to send the Latics fans into Wembley delirium.

Arsenal, who have finished the season in fine fettle and are very nearly at full strength, are certainly worthy of their 9/20 favouritism, though a barren decade for trophies brings more than enough pressure to the Gunners dressing room.

Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal legacy is on the line and the nerves are sure to be jangling more for their players than those Tigers players who have already exceeded all expectations both in reaching the final and staying in the Premier League.

As we’ve already seen during this run to the showpiece, Steve Bruce’s side have played as the archetypical ‘team’ rather than relying on star players – especially without cup tied duo Shane Long and Nickica Jelavic up top.

And two such unlikely heroes could well be the ones who help create Hull history again as they have in earlier rounds.
Skipper Curtis Davies has embodied everything that has been good about Hull en-route to Wembley, notching twice from headers.

Meanwhile, Matty Fryatt – loaned to Sheffield Wednesday until mid December – has chipped in with four FA Cup goals and could yet finish as the tournament’s top scorer if he grabs a brace against Arsenal .

Davies is a 9/1 shot to notch any time in the 90 minutes, while Fryatt, who banged in a wonder goal at Old Trafford in the penultimate game of the Premier League season is 4/1 with Ladbrokes.
