FA Cup matches always bring something a little special to football matches, but Tuesday’s game between Cardiff City and Stoke City already has plenty of spark.
The Bluebirds are still reeling from Stoke’s extra-time turnaround in the 2001/02 Division Two play-offs and Dave Jones’ side will be going all out to end the Potters FA Cup dreams.
However Stoke are unbeaten in their last five against Cardiff (three wins and two draws) and have never lost in the FA Cup to the South Wales side – Stoke are 13/8 to win.
Cardiff are also 13/8 to beat Stoke and their recent run in the FA Cup – the Bluebirds have lost just three of their last 14 matches and one of their last 25 on home soil – suggests they have the potential to progress at the expense of the Premier League side.
Only two goals may have been scored in the tie at the Britannia, but historically this game produces plenty of goals – in 19 games at Cardiff the hosts have scored 33 and Stoke 25 – and backing over 2.5 goals at 11/10 looks the pick of the games betting markets.
Jon Parkin opened his account for the Bluebirds against Norwich on Saturday and is a 7/1 shot to get the first goal on Tuesday night.
Tuncay’s form has been revitalised in recent weeks for Stoke and the forward is 7/4 to score any time on Tuesday night, but despite his goals for Stoke, is likely to return to Stoke a loser.
Between 2003 and 2006, Cardiff scored three goals in five of their six games with Stoke and the Bluebirds are 18/1 to win 3-1 on Tuesday night.
A £25 stake on Parkin scoring first and Cardiff winning 3-1 would return £2,025. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
