Aston Villa manager seeks to supplement attack with Spurs ace

Emmanuel Adebayor has Tim Sherwood to thank for anyone remembering he still plays football for a living.

Tottenham managers either side of the Aston Villa miracle worker have cast the Togolese striker aside when considering their matchday squads, but while Sherwood manned the Lilywhites’ touchline, the former Arsenal star was key to his plans.

The turnaround of both Adebayor’s and Spurs’ seasons intertwined with Sherwood’s temporary stay as the north London club’s boss last term and now the manager is seeking a reunion in the Midlands.

Despite relocating the Aston Villa frontline’s teeth since taking over from Paul Lambert, the former Blackburn captain is reportedly keen to bring in Adebayor on loan next season, to add lethargy to Gabriel Agbonlahor’s pace and Christian Benteke’s power.

If any deal is to be struck, Adebayor would need to agree to a pay cut, which looks unlikely considering recent reports that the cash-happy goal getter has earned £3.4m in wages since his last Premier League start for the Lilywhites.

That came back in November in a 2-1 win over Villa, the game that launched Harry Kane into the starting XI, and the 31-year-old has made just one starting appearance, in the Capital One Cup semi-final against Sheffield United, since.

Another obstacle in Aston Villa’s way looks to be the revelation in the same Daily Mail report that Adebayor “is only prepared to leave Tottenham if they can fix a move to Real Madrid or Chelsea.”

With relegation woes seemingly clear and a trip to the FA Cup final, which they are 5/1 to win, looming, Aston Villa’s improvement and the chance to work with the last manager that trusted him sees Adebayor make the move to Villa Park.
