Whenever he’s appeared between the sticks for Arsenal this season Lukasz Fabianski has performed at a level well in excess of ‘understudy’, helping in no small part to get his club to a first FA Cup final in nine years.

Not least by saving two of Wigan’s penalties in the semi-final shoot-out, while a man-of-the-match performance in the fifth-round against Liverpool also sticks in the memory.

Thanks largely to the popular Pole’s athleticism, Arsenal now have a gilt-edged opportunity to quench their long trophy thirst by picking up the FA Cup – which can be backed at 3/10 with Ladbrokes.

However, Fabianski is still behind international teammate Wojciech Szczesny at the Emirates, where he’s not been exposed to a single minute of Premier League football for the Gunners this season.

As such, it was widely believed the 28-year-old would seek the number one slot somewhere new this summer, but it hasn’t stopped Fabianski coming out after his Wembley heroics and claiming he’d be happy to stay a Gunner beyond this season if he was to get more minutes.

The answer to Fabianski’s career quandary could yet be to remain in north London, but not at Arsenal, or even Barnet.

Over the way, it’s rumoured that Tottenham are preparing to lose their own first choice custodian Hugo Lloris to the hefty financial advances of glamour club Paris St-Germain.

The French national keeper has been a roaring success at White Hart Lane, but the lure of Champions League football and a return to his native land will be a lot to turn down.

Meanwhile, rather than Daniel Levy having to spend another fortune on a top-name stopper, Fabianski has proved he is a serious presence in the net and would no doubt be available for a very reasonable price.
