Anyone who thinks the magic of the cup is dead need only take a look at this weekend’s results to be proved wrong. That’s because against all the odds, the two remaining Non-League outfits, Lincoln City and Sutton United progressed to the Fifth Round of the Emirates FA Cup.
And the shocks just kept on coming.
As well as Sutton and Lincoln beating Leeds United and Brighton & Hove Albion respectively, Millwall defeated Watford, while Oxford United breezed past Newcastle and Wolverhampton Wanderers executed their game plan to perfection to win 2-1 away at Liverpool.
In fact, had someone have backed that five-fold, we’d have been paying out on a 3948/1 shot.
And as the Official betting partner of the FA, we’ve priced up a range of specials concerning the two giantkillers…
Sutton United or Lincoln City to reach the final – 80/1
There’s a long way to go, but we’re already looking ahead to May 27. And optimistic punters can get huge odds on either side making it all the way to Wembley.
Sutton United or Lincoln City to reach the semi-final – 12/1
Perhaps a more realistic bet.
If the pair were to draw each other on Monday night in the Fifth Round, that would guarantee at least one Non-League side in this year’s quarter-final. They’d then be 90 minutes away from writing their names into the history books.
They’re some 15 places above Sutton in the National League. And that’s why Lincoln are the slight favourites in this market. The draw, however, could be more favourable to the U’s, which could mean those odds change come Monday night.
And should both sides fail to progress, we’ll give you your money back.
