As the Emirates FA Cup Second Round kicks off tonight, players from Stourbridge to Surrey will be looking to write their name in the history books as the next Ronnie Radford or Roy Essandoh.

With progression this weekend offering up the mouth-watering prospect of a tie against the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal or Chelsea, here are the underdogs we’re backing to prevail here and reach the promised land of the Third Round.

Curzon Ashton

The last four years have seen the Nash upset the odds time and again, with back-to-back promotions leading them to the National League North, while they’ve already knocked out a higher-division club in this year’s FA Cup – in the form of York City.

With prolific hitman Adam Morgan netting six times in his opening five games with the club, and visitors AFC Wimbledon failing to score in their last three on the road, the best value appears to lie with the 4/1 for a home win at Tameside Stadium.

Newport County

Don’t let the Exiles’ current position in League Two’s relegation zone fool you. The South Wales outfit have been revitalised by the arrival of manager Graham Westley, with four wins in their last six games.

By contrast, visitors Plymouth Argyle are seeing their promotion hopes disintegrate, with three defeats on the spin. Oh, and they haven’t beaten Football League opposition at Home Park in this competition since 2008 – with defeats to Swindon, Port Vale and Carlisle United in recent years.

The 3/1 for Newport to return home as victors looks very tempting indeed.

Stourbridge

Beware the Glassboys, who have shattered the dreams of 10 of their last 11 Emirates FA Cup opponents, with only Eastleigh managing to overcome the Worcestershire side in this competition during the past two years.

Having smashed Workington 5-0 in the league during their last game, the Northern Premier League outfit will surely be confident of a cup scalp against a Northampton Town side on a run of five straight defeats.

We reckon our traders are being hugely generous with the 6/1 for a Stourbridge win, so lump on for another cup triumph for the Glassboys against their visitors.
