A 1-0 away defeat to Cagliari at the weekend was an uncharacteristic slip from Vincenzo Montella’s Fiorentina but the visitors should have more luck when they visit Udinese.
La Viola are the 29/20 favourites for a victory that would move them one step closer to claiming a seventh Coppa Italia title and given the host’s recent record at the Stadio Friuli, it’s a price that is richly warranted.
Udinese, 9/5 for victory, have endured a poor run at home of late, losing five of the last seven fixtures they have played in front of their own fans, shipping 12 goals in the process.
Fiorentina, meanwhile, have enjoyed a solid record on the road in Serie A, picking up seven points from the last 12 available on the road in the league and keeping three clean sheets in the process.
With goalkeeper Neto continuing to impress between the sticks for La Viola, backing the Brazilian to keep Udinese at bay tempts, with odds of 2/1 on the Florence club keeping a clean sheet and 13/4 on the visitors winning to nil.
Ladbrokes has the draw at 90 minutes priced at 2/1, though Fiorentina will be out to ensure that history repeats itself against the hosts in the Italian cup.
Last year La Viola claimed a 1-0 victory over Udinese in this very competition, with the same scoreline a 13/2 shot going into the same fixture a year on.
The Bianconeri did beat Fiorentina 1-0 at the Stadio Friuli earlier in the season and though a repeat result can be backed at 7/1 through the bookmakers, given the attacking quality the visitors possess, more goals could be on the cards.
Three of the last four games involving Montella’s team have featured three or more, and the 21/20 offered on over 2.5 total goals being scored looks the safest bet of the night.
With the likes of Alessandro Matri, Alberto Aquilani and Josip Ilicic all in fine goalscoring form, goals and a Fiorentina win looks assured.
