Two Premier League clubs take to the Europa League stage on matchday six and to celebrate Swansea and Tottenham’s televised clashes, Ladbrokes have bumped up the odds on both Michu and Jermain Defoe to draw first blood.

Michu is 6/1 out from 4/1 to score first v St Gallen

Swansea’s scoring machine of last season will be hungrier than ever to get back on the goals-wagon after a month-long injury layoff.

There is no better competition for the Spaniard to do this in either. Four of Michu’s six goals so far this season have arrived in the Europa League – starting as far back as the first qualifying game the Swans faced on August 1st.

More importantly, though, this competition was the scene of his last strike before injury, when Michu found the net first against Kuban at the Liberty Stadium at the backend of October.

Having got 90 minutes back under his belt in Swansea’s last Premier League game against Hull, it would be no surprise to see Michu hone his sights with the opener here.

Jermain Defoe is 4/1 from 11/4 to score first against Anzhi

Tottenham’s penalty-box fox has been in such good form in this competition – Defoe is the joint-leading Europa League scorer with five – that he has forced his way back into Andre Villas Boas’ Premier League XI.

His inclusion has coincided with a two-game winning streak for Spurs in the top-flight and against Sunderland, Defoe did everything but hit the net – striking both posts during the match.

To keep the current feel-good factor mobilised at White Hart Lane, it would be no surprise to see AVB turn to Tottenham’s all-time leading scorer in Europe from the start against Anzhi.
