Man United v Fenerbahce: Red Devils to continue good Euro home form

Fenerbahce may have broken Manchester United’s decades-long unbeaten home record in European football back in 1996, but the chances of Dick Advocaat’s men taking anything from Old Trafford this time around look pretty slim.

United have won nine and drawn three of their last 12 home games in Europe – a run which has included victories over Real Sociedad and Wolfsburg.

And their overall record on home turf is similarly impressive, with seven wins and two draws in their last 10 games, chalking up five clean sheets along the way.

By contrast, Fener have endured a difficult start to this campaign, and currently lie ninth in the Turkish Super Lig, without a single clean sheet to their name, and head into this tie on the back of a home draw with strugglers Alanyaspor.

They also boast a grim record in England in recent times, losing on their last three visits to these shores, including a 2-0 defeat at Arsenal in 2013, and of course, that 6-2 mauling at Old Trafford back in 2004.

That game saw the debut of a certain Wayne Rooney, who netted a hat-trick against Sari Kanaryalar. Since then he’s netted another 34 goals in European competition, and will surely be keen to roll back the years with another fine display against them.

With Fener’s defence currently leaking goals, the 21/20 for Rooney to score anytime looks like good value, while it’s 18/1 for the 30-year-old to repeat the feat with a third career hat-trick in Europe.

Elsewhere, there could also be plenty of value in backing United to win and Both Teams to Score at 9/4. For all of Fener’s defensive faults, they have netted in their last six games in all competitions.

In the match betting, United look the better-priced at 4/7 for victory, with Fenerbahce 19/4 to pull off a shock win and 3/1 for a draw.
