Nothing separated the two sides when they met at the Philip’s stadium last week and Thursday night’s tie between Rangers and PSV Eindhoven could go the same way.
PSV just shade the favouritism to win the match and to qualify as an away goal would leave Rangers having to do somthing they haven’t done in 10 European home games.
Rangers haven’t scored two goals in a home European tie since beating Werder Bremen 2-0 three years ago and while they are 17/10 to beat PSV, a clean sheet will be Walter Smith’s top priority.
Rangers are 9/4 to keep a clean sheet but considering PSV have scored exactly two goals in all of their last four Europa League away games, the Rangers defence will have to be at their peak.
PSV are 8/5 to win but considering they failed to score against Rangers in their home leg, there is plenty of doubt surrounding the Dutch side and backing a repeat of the draw looks the best bet at 11/5.
With just seven goals in nine European games this season, Rangers will be looking to El Hadji Diouf to improve that record and the controversial striker is 11/2 to score the first goal.
But in Ola Toivonen PSV have an attacker who has three goals in his eight Europa League starts and at 7/1 to get the first goal, offers a little more value than Diouf.
The 1-1 draw is the favoured result at 11/2 and it’s hard to see past that scoreline which leaves the 4/6 for under 2.5 goals looking a solid bet.
However should the Rangers defence hold firm then backing the Scottish side to qualify at 11/8 could be the pick of the market.
A £20 stake on Toivonen scoring first and the game finishing 1-1 would return £680. New customers can sign up here for a free bet worth up to £60.
