Manchester United’s quest to lift the Europa League for the first time continues at Constant Vanden Stock Stadium on Thursday night.
But they’re unlikely to have it their own way against an Anderlecht side with a terrific home record.
Rene Weiler’s men have won seven of their last 10 on home turf, drawing the other three. That’s a record hugely aided by both an extremely strong defence – and the goals of prolific Polish hitman Lukasz Teodorczyk.
Anderlecht have now conceded just once in their last five games, with a record of eight clean sheets in the last 10 at home. So they look well priced to win to nil at 11/2, especially when you consider United’s dismal away record in this competition.
The Red Devils have played nine away games since first entering the UEL in 2012, losing five and drawing once. In the process, they’ve scored just nine goals, and suffered defeat to the likes of Midtjylland and PSV Eindhoven.
And they’ll really have their work cut out to stop Teodorczyk. The 25-year-old has scored a sensational 28 goals so far this season, seven of which have come in this competition. So he looks generously priced at 7/4 to net anytime, with 9/2 on offer for the former Dynamo Kiev man to open the scoring against United.
If Anderlecht are to win, it’s likely they’ll strike early. Nine of Paars-wit’s last 10 victories have seen the capital club lead at the interval, and there’s a tempting 6/1 available for Anderlecht to lead at half-time and win here.
Having also come out on top in eight of their last 10 home games in the Europa League – including victory over Tottenham and a 6-1 demolition of German heavyweights Mainz 05 – the Belgians will surely be confident of upsetting the odds in a number of markets tonight.
The hosts are 14/5 for victory on the night, with Man United priced up at 20/21 and 12/5 for the draw.
