Germany and Portugal’s Group B clash on Saturday looks one of the picks of Euro 2012’s opening fixtures, with Germany looking terrific value to score two or three times at 11/8.

There have been eight previous encounters between these countries, dating all the way back to a friendly match back in 1936.

During these clashes, four have featured the Germans scoring either two or three times, including the last two occasions the countries have renewed acquaintances.

Those statistics should encourage punters to look seriously at backing Joachim Low’s side at that 11/8 price to breach the Portugal backline twice or three times again, whilst the recent form of either side suggests it is a wise investment also.

Of their past 11 matches, dating back to a year ago, Germany have scored either two or three goals in nine of their matches, whilst they have registered this amount of strikes in seven of their last eight outings as well.

Also factoring in that Portugal have conceded two or three goals in four of their last seven matches, the aforementioned bet at 11/8 seems yet more appealing.

The last two meetings of the sides each reaped three German goals, and with both coming at major international tournaments, the trend could continue again here.

It was in fact at Euro 2008 the last time the teams met, where a 3-2 Germany triumph saw them advance to the semi-finals at the competition.

In fact, of the six games Germany played when marching to an eventual spot in the final of that tournament, they notched two or three times in half of those matches.

This would appear to demonstrate their goalscoring credentials in major tournaments, as does the 17 goals they scored in seven outings at the 2010 World Cup.

With an average goal tally falling in between two and three for games in their past two major tournaments, Germany look good to score two or three on Saturday at 11/8.
