Bradford’s Herculean effort to reach the Capital One Cup final will ensure that they have the nation in their corner at Wembley, but toppling Swansea will prove one mammoth task too many.
The Bantams are 15/2 shots to overcome their Welsh adversaries in 90 minutes and there’ll be plenty of backers at this long price, but Goliath’s 2/5 is where the smart money is on this one.
The chief reason being that, on top of obvious class-chasm separating these two, the Swans are a much sturdier outfit than any of the previous giants the Yorkshiremen smote.
Three defeats in the 14 matches that followed a 1-0 December defeat to Tottenham will testify to this.
Phil Parkinson and his band of odds-upsetters have definitely had more than half an eye on this game for a matter of weeks now and come into the biggest tussle of their existence on the back of a far from ideal five defeats in seven.
If their insatiable run to the final is going to engulf the Swans, the form of strike comrades James Hanson and Nhaki Wells will be key. The best little ‘n’ large act since the Two Ronnies will have impressed many managers previously unaware of their being before Bradford’s cup run and their boss has been keeping them wrapped in cotton wool ahead of this clash.
The latter is a 9/1 shot to bag the opener on Wembley’s hallowed turf, while his battering ram of a partner in crime is available at 12’s. The pair have split five goals between them thus far in the Capital One Cup meaning Michael Laudrup would be ill-advised to downplay their threat.
Assuming that he doesn’t, a much safer sounding bet is the 5/4 that says the Welsh club will lift their first ever major trophy thanks to a win to nil. Given their superiority, a 90 minutes victory is easy to envisage, as well is them adding to the three straight games in which they haven’t conceded a goal in this competition.
