Chelsea pummel Arsenal in Community Shield Mix n Match XI

While the Premier League’s elite are on tours in various corners of the globe, two of them must return home to prepare for the season’s official curtain raiser: the Community Shield.

Chelsea, fresh from three friendlies in the United States, and Arsenal, who took to Singapore for the first two games of their pre-season, will descend on Wembley to compete for the first piece of silverware of the campaign.

Ladbrokes make the defending league champions the 7/5 favourites to prevail, with the FA Cup holders given a 19/10 chance and the draw 12/5.

In celebration of the first semi-meaningful match of the season, have dusted down their trusty Mix n Match graphic to gauge just how accurate those odds are.

If the below combination of the two squads is anything to go by, Chelsea are far too short to take the glory in London, with nine of their squad picked to Arsenal’s measly two:

Petr Cech had to move to Arsenal just to get a guarantee of game time this summer, so isn’t well placed to oust Thibaut Courtois here.

The Blues’ backline was easily the best in the Premier League last season, so are another simple selection in what is an all-Chelsea defensive five.

Stamford Bridge continue to provide the players as the XI moves into midfield, with Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic both included for their complementary strengths.

It’s only when Alexis Sanchez and Santi Carzorla arrive to dispose of Oscar and Willian that this XI sees its first splash of red, with PFA Player of the Year Eden Hazard and 20-goal striker Diego Costa completing the lineup.
