Sacking the manager is meant to send a warning shot jolting through the playing staff like an insulin to the arm, but Lee Clark’s removal as Birmingham City boss resulted in a crushing 8-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

That whacking left the Blues one place off the bottom of the Championship and was their third defeat in a row.

If there was any hint of silver lining to such a dark cloud, it’s that their slow death was being played out in relative anonymity.

Now, with the club at its lowest ebb, the Sky cameras are in situ to project their misery to the masses as Birmingham face their midlands rivals Wolves. Here are three bets for the clash:

Wolves (-1.0) to win @ 29/20

Kenny Jackett’s side entertain the Blues having won two on the spin, but they have only lost once in the last 12 games during a large patch of purple.

In five of their last six outings the Molineux men have scored more than once, making an odds-plumping bet on the handicap a secure move.

Wolves to keep a clean sheet @ 23/20

During their sorry run of form in the last three games, Birmingham have failed to find a way past any of the opposition’s keepers.

In addition, the Blues have been kept at bay in two of their last three trips to their local rivals.

Bakary Sako to score last @ 4/1

Wolves’ French-born Malian has been in flying form this season, rippling the onion bag seven times in 14 appearances.

Before missing the club’s win over Leeds, the 26-year-old had scored four times in as many games. Understandably, Jackett had hoped his star striker would be fit enough to take the field but, having been afforded extra rest in not making it, should feature this time.

Five of Sako’s goals have come at home and he’s bagged the decider on four occasions.
