This weekend’s EFL action kicks off in west London, as Queens Park Rangers play host to Brentford at Loftus Road, with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s charges looking for a third successive win over the Bees on home soil.

And the R’s kick off our top five bets for the weekend…

QPR v Brentford

Rangers fans have reason to be confident ahead of tonight’s west London derby, having beaten Brentford 3-0 and 1-0 in the last pair of meetings at Loftus Road.

The current form book also points to the R’s taking the points. They’ve taken eight points from their last five games, while Brentford haven’t won in over a month.

Dean Smith’s side have also scored just once in their last four games, meaning the hosts should be backed to win to nil in this one.

Best Bet: QPR to win to nil @ 7/2

Ipswich Town v Rotherham United

The Millers’ tale has been one of woe this season, with a run of seven successive defeats since mid-September, while Ipswich have had solid home form to thank for their position in lower mid-table.

Early goals from Grant Ward and Luke Chambers have guided the East Anglian outfit to their last two home wins, while the Millers have been behind at the break in four of their last five games. Backing the hosts to lead at the break looks like easy money.

Best Bet: 1st Half – Result: Ipswich @ 11/8

Derby County v Sheffield Wednesday

The iPro stadium hasn’t seen too much excitement this season, with three 0-0 draws in the seven Championship games here so far. And the value lies in backing yet another snoozefest in the East Midlands as Wednesday make the short trip down.

Carlos Carvalhal’s men are the equal-lowest scorers in the top seven, and haven’t scored more than one goal in any of their last five outings. Having chalked up three clean sheets during those five games, it’s hard to see much goalmouth action here.

Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals @ 4/7

Southend United v Shrewsbury Town

Betting against the Shrews is a shrewd move right now, following seven defeats and three draws in their last 10 games in all competitions. And Southend have a player with the ability to expose their defensive weakness once again.

Talented midfielder Anthony Wordsworth has netted five times in his last seven games for the Shrimpers, scoring the final goal in three matches during that period.

With Shrewsbury finding the net just three times in the second half of their last 10 games, Wordsworth is well-priced to finish the scoring once again.

Best Bet: Last Goalscorer – Anthony Wordsworth @ 11/2

Plymouth Argyle v Colchester United

With the Devon club top of the table by four points, it’s a surprise to see them at virtually Evens to win at home, especially with Col U without a victory in their last seven League Two games.

The hosts have doled out several hammerings at Home Park already this season, including 4-1 drubbings of Newport County and Yeovil Town. Expect them to prove too strong again.

Best Bet: Plymouth to win @ 20/21
