Well, despite almost missing out on a play-off spot on the final day of the season, Millwall have won promotion back to the Championship after seeing off Bradford City this afternoon in the Wembley final.
After suffering heartbreak at the famous stadium this time last year, it was Neil Harris’ turn to celebrate – but now is where the hard work really starts.
That’s despite the South East London outfit failing to finish in the top six of the second tier of English football since the 2001-02 campaign.
But if their fighting spirit in recent weeks is anything to go by, we can certainly see this team causing one or two upsets in their return to the Champonship.
Whether or not they’ll be able to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Norwich City and Southampton – who both achieved back-to-back promotions from League One to the top-flight – remains to be seen, and our odds-compilers are going 66/1 about them winning the division next year.
They’ll have it all to do though in a league consisting of the likes of Norwich, Aston Villa, Sunderland, Hull City and Middlesbrough.
But at 16/1, it’s fair to say the Harris’ men will probably finish next campaign in the top-half of the division rather than near the bottom.
Having achieved what they set out to do this year, Millwall’s attention must now shift towards adding some experienced heads to their ranks – players who know what it takes to succeed in this division.
And we’re expecting plenty of transfer activity from the Lions as soon as the window opens in the summer.
But for now, it’s time for everyone associated with the club to celebrate.
Congratulations on your return to the Championship from the Ladbrokes News team!
