London Premier League trio Tottenham, West Ham and Fulham are looking to swoop on one of the capital’s lesser clubs in order to land a teenage midfield prospect.

Diego Poyet, son of Sunderland manager and Chelsea legend Gus, has been earning rave reviews for his appearances at Charlton in the Championship this year and could be the subject of a bidding war this summer.

Charlton look poised to fall into League One – with the Valley outfit 6/4 for relegation – but Poyet has been one of the few bright lights for the Addicks in recent weeks and some of Europe’s top club’s are beginning to take an interest in the 18-year-old.

Poyet has played eight games for the south Londoners so far this term and while that may be limited game time, his man of the match performance in last month’s 1-0 win over promotion hopefuls QPR has fired him into the mainstream consciousness.

The Premier League trio will bank on the youngster having a desire to remain in England to boost their chances of acquiring his services and after racking up 13 appearances for England’s U16 and U17 teams they may be confident.

And with his father enjoying a three-year spell at White Hart Lane before ending his playing career, Spurs appear to be at the front of that line.

That said, should the Charlton man decide to stay in London his best chance at first team football could be with Fulham, with the Cottagers 1/8 to fall through the Premier League trapdoor.

Another season in the Championship would allow Poyet to establish himself as a first team regular at a club well-equipped to challenge at the top of that division.

However, after being born in Spain to a Uruguayan father, Poyet qualifies for both nations and as such reported interest from Barcelona could scupper the plans of Tim Sherwood, Sam Allardyce and Felix Magath.
