While Blackburn’s pursuit of Jordan Rhodes has been well-documented throughout the summer, the extent to which they will go to land their man now appears to have been revealed.

Rovers boss Steve Kean is thought to have made a final, take-it-or-leave it offer for the Huddersfield striker, which will eventually amount to £6m for the Scottish international.

Kean is desperate to bolster his attacking options, following an injury during pre-season to newly-signed Leon Best, which will see the former Newcastle man out until at least Christmas.

In Rhodes, who scored more goals than anyone in England last term, he thinks he has found his man, and has stepped up his chase to capture the 22-year-old, who struck 40 times in all competitions in 2011/2012.

The package offered to Huddersfield consists of £4m up front for the striker, with an additional £2m to be paid to the Terriers should Blackburn make an instant return to the top flight.

That bid is more than £1m in excess of their last failed attempt to nab Rhodes, and the £35,000-per-week wages they are prepared to offer him show just how highly Kean rates the deadly finisher.

Rhodes will also be afforded a non-promotion release clause, and would be allowed to leave Ewood Park should the Lancashire outfit fail to justify their 7/2 odds to bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Such attractive contract terms could prove too difficult for Rhodes to resist, as his current chairman Dean Hoyle now mulls over a tempting offer for his club’s prize asset.

Of course, the sale of Rhodes would allow Town boss Simon Grayson the funds to significantly bolster his squad, as he aims for a tilt at back-to-back promotions.

Portsmouth winger Liam Lawrence and former QPR defender Danny Gabbidon top his wishlist, but a dilemma stems from whether or not such additions are worth sacrificing a seeming guaranteed source of goals for.
