The Carling Cup may offer the chance for the Championship sides to have a solid run at a major trophy, but for both Cardiff City and Leicester City, the league title is a much higher priority.
The two sides played out a 2-2 draw in the Carling Cup in midweek and there has been little separating the two since the first of eight games back in January 2010, with Cardiff winning four and Leicester three.
Sky Sports are covering this game in belief that the two teams will be challenging for promotion come the end of the season, and it’s a huge game for both teams on Sunday.
With home advantage Cardiff are the slight 7/5 favourites today but there is just one point separating the two sides after seven games, and both sides have made similar starts to the season.
Five of the last eight games have been played in Cardiff and the hosts have won three, the Foxes one and midweek’s draw.
Leicester are 2/1 to win on Sunday and they are yet to lose away from home this season, but Cardiff will provide a stiff test of their travelling credentials and the draw is tempting at 11/5.
Cardiff have scored in all seven of their league games this season which suggests Leicester will need to score twice to win, and over 2.5 goals looks a solid bet at 5/6.
Cardiff have managed 10 goals and Leicester have got nine in the league this season and so both sides are in strong scoring form.
Don Cowie has scored four goals in his last five games for Cardiff and the midfielder is a huge 16/1 to get the opening goal.
Leicester have conceded five times from set pieces this season which adds to the strength of Cowie getting the first goal, even if the two teams can boast strikers such as Robert Earnshaw, Kenny Miller and Jermaine Beckford.
At such an early stage in the season the game will not have a huge impact on the title race but both teams will be keen to highlight their title credentials and so we’re in for a very intriguing affair at the Cardiff City stadium.
