The Championship title race is heading for a grandstand finish as Leicester and Burnley look set to slug it out all the way to the last game to see who is crowned kings of the second tier.
Leicester haven’t looked back since leapfrogging early-season pace setters Burnley at the Championship summit back in mid December, where they’ve remained top and unbeaten for the ensuing 16 fixtures.
Unsurprisingly, Nigel Pearson’s fantastic Foxes have also held on to their title favouritism ever since, where they are currently 1/8 shots to lift the Championship trophy with nine to play.
However, the title landscape is certainly not as clear cut as these odds suggest, leaving lurking value for punters having a bet on Burnley to be champions at 4/1.
Rather than see their title challenge fade like the colour in a pair of 20-year-old curtains like that of QPR’s in recent times, Burnley have clung relentlessly to Leicester’s coattails.
With the leaders drawing four times in their last eight league games, this has allowed Sean Dyche’s side to reel Leicester in.
The Clarets, meanwhile, unbeaten themselves since Boxing Day in the Championship, have racked up six wins in their last eight to close the gap to just three points and guess who is up at Turf Moor next?
Leicester travel to Lancashire for what promises to be a title-defining fixture and even though the midlanders still have a game in hand, a loss would surely see Burnley’s title odds shrink faster than those kids in the 1980’s blockbuster.
Having just recorded five straight Championship wins at Turf Moor, where Burnley are unbeaten all season, defeating the leaders is a very real possibility.
Punters should jump on before the Burnley gravy train pulls off into oblivion.
