Aidy Boothroyd is preparing to hand Marlon King a second chance in football by signing him for Coventry.

The striker was only released from serving nine months of an 18-month spell in prison last month after being convicted of an assault on a woman in a London nightclub, but has spent some time in the past week training with the Championship club.

Boothroyd and King have previously worked together at Watford and the manager may feel that the free transfer is worth a gamble as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion to the Premier League.

According to the Coventry Telegraph, Boothroyd said: “Marlon’s been training and doing a variety of tests and he’s looking in good shape.

“Other clubs are interested in him but the fact he chose to train with us suggests we are in a good position. But the sooner we can do it – or not do it – the better.”

Coventry have made an encouraging start to the Championship season by collecting seven points from their opening three games to sit in fourth spot in the table.

The Sky Blues are 33/1 to win the Championship this season and travel to Millwall for their next fixture, where they will look to maintain their undefeated run.

Millwall are the solid favourites to collect the three points against Coventry at 5/6 with Boothroyd’s team 10/3 to register their third league victory of the campaign.

Coventry last faced Millwall in the fourth round of the FA Cup in 2008 and progressed to the fifth round with a 2-1 victory.

A repeat of the same result is valued at 10/1.

It is 5/2 that the game will end in a draw. See the whole Millwall vs Coventry match betting market.
