If Newcastle United’s 4-3 triumph over Norwich City on Wednesday night was a sign of things to come in the EFL this weekend, then we’re in for a treat.
There’s a big huge clash at the summit of League One as Bury host Scunthorpe United, while Bristol City will be hoping Tammy Abraham can continue his fantastic form to give them a shot at finishing in the Championship play-off spots.
Here are the Ladbrokes News’ team’s top five tips for those looking for a flutter on the EFL action.
Brentford v Wigan Athletic
Only Will Grigg has emerged from the Latics’ recent away days with any credit, having scored four times in their dismal run of six successive defeats on the road.
Things are unlikely to get any better for Gary Caldwell’s men this weekend, with Brentford having taken 13 points from five games at Griffin Park this season, scoring as many goals in the process.
Grigg might well net once again at his old club, but don’t expect the visitors to get their first away points against a side who’ve already hit Preston North End for five this month.
Best Bet: Brentford to win and BTTS @ 11/4
Bristol City v Nottingham Forest
The Robins boast the Championship’s hottest goalscoring talent in the form of 18-year-old Tammy Abraham, with the Chelsea loanee already on ten goals for the season in all competitions, with seven in his last eight outings.
What Nottingham Forest would give for a striker in that form, with no win in five league outings. However, their main issue lies in giving away late goals, having conceded the last goal in four successive matches.
Abraham has already scored the last goal on four occasions this season, so back him to do so again – and keep the Robins rocking at Ashton Gate.
Best Bet: Last Goalscorer: Tammy Abraham @ 10/3
Bury v Scunthorpe
No doubt about the game of the weekend in League One, as the top two do battle at Gigg Lane. And it’s sure to be one for the neutral, with this pair always serving up a top-notch contest.
Scunny won 2-1 on both occasions last season, but each of the last six meetings have produced three or more goals, and seen both sides find the net.
The Iron are the division’s top scorers with 24 goals so far, while Bury are next-best with 19. Expect the net to keep on bulging in north Manchester.
Best Bet: Over 2.5 goals @ Evens
Oldham Athletic v MK Dons
While Bury fans could be in for a treat at Gigg Lane, it’s the visitors at nearby Boundary Park who are likely to be bouncing tomorrow, as away-day specialists MK Dons head to relegation-threatened Oldham.
Karl Robinson’s men have taken 10 points from their last five league games on the road, while Oldham haven’t won a game since August 20.
With the North-West outfit struggling for goals and the Dons netting in the first 10 minutes at Fleetwood Town last weekend, expect the visitors to score early and cruise to victory.
Best Bet: HT: MK Dons / FT: MK Dons @ 13/5
Crawley Town v Blackpool
The Red Devils have clawed their way back into the top half of League Two after taking seven points from three games, and look good value to continue their winning run against Blackpool at 13/5.
However, we reckon the best value in this clash is on a 2-1 home win. The Tangerines have won just one from five on the road, though they have netted on each occasion.
The quality of James Collins and Adi Yussuf up front means Crawley are likely to net a couple here – having scored six in their last three at home – but don’t be surprised to see them concede for the third game running.
Best Bet: Crawley to win 2-1 @ 11/1
