Tottenham will be keen to mark their debut in the group stages of the Champions League with a victory in their first ever meeting with Werder Bremen.

Both teams reached Group A after qualifying for this stage via the play-offs, with Bremen overcoming Sampdoria in a tense tussle and Tottenham seeing off Young Boys.

Tottenham lost the away leg of their encounter with the Swiss side and may be in for a tough night if they are to avoid a similar result in Germany.

Bremen won five of their home games and drew the other en route to reaching the last 16 of the Europa League last season and are 11/10 to beat Tottenham.

On a more positive note for Tottenham, who are 12/5 to win, is that Bremen centre-back pairing Per Mertesacker and Naldo are both sidelined, while striker Claudio Pizarro is struggling with a thigh muscle injury and is almost certain to miss out.

Michael Dawson, Jermain Defoe and Heurelho Gomes are on the treatment table at Spurs, but Harry Redknapp should have Luka Modric available despite picking up a leg injury against West Brom in their last Premier League game.

Group A also sees FC Twente make their Champions League debut after winning the Dutch title for the first time last season and they begin at home against Inter Milan.

Last year’s Champions League winners are 4/5 to gain an early three points and could see Maicon return to action after injury.

Meanwhile, Cristian Chivu and Dejan Stankovic are doubtful and Thiago Motta is definitely out.

For Twente, they will be relying on Marc Janko and Bryan Ruiz to remember their shooting boots if they are to defy odds of 7/2 to beat Inter.

Janko is 7/1 to open the scoring after moving to Twente in the summer after striking 75 times in 108 appearances for Red Bull Salzburg.

Tottenham are 33/1 to win the Champions League, with Inter 11/1 to defend the title that they claimed when beating Bayern Munich in the final last season. See the whole Champions league winners market.
