It was Celtic’s barrage of goals which caught the eye in the early weeks of the season, but Brendan Rodgers’ men have now developed a defensive toughness which could be even more invaluable as they head to Borussia Monchengladbach tonight.
The Hoops have kept five clean sheets in their last six games, while their record on the road is even better – with four successive victories recorded without conceding a single goal.
Admittedly the Glasgow giants face a tough test in Germany, with Gladbach boasting a strong defensive record of their own, letting in just two goals in their last five outings, and both of those to Bayern Munich.
With neither of these two in free-scoring form this month, the best betting here looks to be on a goal-shy affair with the points shared between the pair.
That argument is further strengthened by the fact Gladbach have drawn two of their last five, while the Hoops have already shared the points once in this group stage, in their thrilling draw with Manchester City.
A share of the spoils looks excellently priced here at 16/5, while Gladbach are 1/2 favourites to win, with Celtic the better bet for victory in light of their sizeable odds of 5/1.
Elsewhere, there could be plenty of value in the 5/4 for under 2.5 goals, while 9/4 says we see a repeat of the 0-0 half-time scoreline from the pair’s last meeting.
In the player markets, the most interesting bet is the 16/1 for Stuart Armstrong to be last goalscorer – with the former Dundee United man already netting in the last 10 minutes of two games since the beginning of September.
