With the conclusion of matchweek three, the Champions League group stage is now officially at half-time.
So it’s a good time to reflect on what has been a very good week for English sides.
Manchester City defeated Napoli, Tottenham Hotspur drew away at Real Madrid.
Liverpool hammered Maribor 7-0, while Manchester United defeated Benfica 1-0. Chelsea were the only side to be disappointed, letting a 2-0 lead slip to draw 3-3 with Roma.
But despite the impressive performances from Premier League clubs, the odds suggest this year’s trophy won’t be heading for England.
That’s because Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid hold joint-favouritism at 4/1.
The former raised the bar in football spending this summer, while the latter have won the tournament three times in the last four years.
Man City are the most likely Premier League-based winner, with Pep Guardiola’s men priced up at 13/2.
City share those odds with Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
At 11/1, plenty will fancy Man United to win the European Cup for a fourth time.
The odds post a reality check for Liverpool and Tottenham though.
Both sides remain lengthy 25/1 shots, in spite of their excellent results this week.
