Borussia Dortmund will be looking for a victory over Manchester City at the Westfalenstadion to progress to the knockout phase of the Champions League as Group of Death winners.
They can be backed at 11/10 and with the visitors sure to rest key players ahead of Manchester United’s trip to the Etihad next weekend this is a bet well worth jumping into bed with.
City are 9/4 shots to claim the spoils, while the draw can be had at 13/5 but both are too short for a number of reasons.
Aside from the Citizens’ upcoming crunch clash in the Premier League, a win would pretty much guarantee them third place in the group (unless Ajax achieve the unimaginable by beating Real Madrid at the Bernabeu) and participation in the Europa League is more of a hindrance for a club with City’s towering agenda.
The hosts haven’t lost in the 11 games since Schalke shocked them on their own patch, winning seven times since. City’s form in this competition offers stark contrast to this; their five outings have yielded no win as of yet and were a tad fortunate to claim two of the three draws they’ve managed too.
For those determined to punt on Roberto Mancini’s men here, however, a few quid on them to open the scoring could see them in profit.
They’re 6/5 to do so, which is a bit stingy given all of the above, yet they have broken the deadlock in both their Champions League away games to date, while Dortmund have failed to keep a clean sheet in their previous seven attempts.
Assuming this bet cops, the 9/4 on offer for Dortmund to win the game with over 2.5 goals scored represents excellent value also.
Both of City’s losses in the competition to date have surpassed this mark, while six of Dortmund’s last nine in all comps have seen more than 2.5 goals registered too.
Following this recipe for success, you might as well complete the hat-trick by throwing a few quid at the 15/2 for Dortmund to come from behind to take the points and celebrate City’s Champions League shortcomings in style.
