With a sense of deja vu, Arsenal travel to Germany in a seemingly lost cause of a Champions League tie with Bayern Munich.

Last time they did it was last season, trailing 3-1 from the first leg clash at the Emirates and written off in all quarters.

This time it’s a 2-0 deficit but once again they are unfancied to scale what looks to be a footballing Everest.

The Gunners are 15/2 to win the match, with Bayern as short as 1/3 for victory and a draw at 9/2. Qualification looks even more insurmountable with Arsene Wenger’s side a 16/1 shot to progress to the next round.

Last term, the north London club caused a shock in winning 2-0, albeit still crashing out of the competition on away goals. However, this time around there’s not even the slightest hope of that.

When last they met, Bayern were on their way to setting untold numbers of records in a treble-winning season.

Now they’re even better. Currently on a 13-game winning streak, Bayern have only lost two games all season long and one of those was the German version of the Community Shield.

Pep Guardiola’s side aren’t just winning games by the scruff of their neck either, they are cantering to victory with goals aplenty.

In fact, in the last 20 competitive matches they’ve played, the opposition keeper has had to pick the ball out of his onion bag twice or more.

At the Allianz Arena they are particularly potent, with 11 straight games of two or more goals under their belt and the last three all reaching at least four.

With over 2.5 Bayern goals priced up at 1/1 against Arsenal, there really isn’t a better punt in the game, especially with the supposedly newfound sturdiness of the Gunners’ backline appearing cracked, having conceded in all of their last five games.
