David Beckham is being lined up for a sensational return to top flight football after being offered the chance to lace up his boots once more in South America.

The former Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan and PSG star is the subject of an audacious bid from Bolivian champions Club Bolivar to star in the South American equivalent of the Champions League.

According to the Mirror, Bolivar’s billionaire owner Marcelo Claure wants to sign the 39-year-old former England captain to aid his side’s Copa Libertadores semi-final bid where they’ll take on Argentina’s San Lorenzo. .

Beckham is one of England’s most-capped outfield players, having amassed 115 appearances during his international career, and has won a host of top honours including six Premier League titles, two FA Cup trophies, one Champions League triumph along with title success in La Liga and the MLS.

However, after hanging up his boots in an emotional farewell for PSG, the player nicknamed Goldenballs has been concentrating on a football career off the pitch in his bid to launch a Florida-based franchise in the MLS.

It is through this venture that Beckham and Claure have struck up a friendship and the Bolivar owner has long been keen on using the relationship to his advantage in South America, tweeting pictures of Becks posing with his club’s jersey last year.

While the likelihood of Beckham turning out remains slim, with Ladbrokes offering odds of 5/1 on Becks to sign for Club Bolivar, Claure is confident of pulling off the coup, saying he expects his friend to don this shirt for real “even if it’s only for a couple of games in the Copa Libertadores”.

Beckham’s focus is clearly on getting his MLS side off the ground but the superstar has never been one to turn down the chance of boosting his profile in new territories so don’t write this one off just yet!
