Arsenal to win 16-17 Premier League

This summer’s transfer window is well and truly underway and although Arsenal fans are desperate to see a new striker gracing the Emirates turf come the start of the season, they may already have one in their squad in Alexis Sanchez.

Arsene Wenger insists his team of scouts and negotiators are ‘very active’ in this summer’s transfer window, having already acquired the services of Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach, Bolton’s Rob Holding and Japanese striker Takuma Asano.

And with a deal for Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez looking increasingly likely with the winger just 4/7 to join Mesut Ozil and co., it’s fair to say such a deal would see the end of Wenger’s activity in the market.

This, of course, would leave the Gunners with just one recognised, fully fit and proven striker in Olivier Giroud.

But an ever-growing list of talent in the midfield department with the likes of Sanchez, Ozil, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Alex Iwobi, Santi Cazorla, Theo Walcott and Joel Campbell – as well as Mahrez – means that competition for places is the highest it has been at the Emirates for a long time.

However, shifting Sanchez into a centre forward position would not only provide healthy competition for Giroud, but it would also allow more space in behind for Wenger to field another attack-minded midfielder.

Playing the Chilean up top would no doubt strike fear into Premier League central defenders – he’s great in the air, unpredictable, quick, can score all kinds of goals and never stops chasing down opponents.

The 27-year old already has 29 league goals to his name in 65 appearances in England, that’s just one less than Olivier Giroud in the same time period, and potentially playing in front of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mesut Ozil and Mahrez next season, it’s frightening to think how many more he could bag.

And should Arsene Wenger push his prized asset up top next campaign, the 20/1 for him to finish top scorer in the league looks a steal.
