Alan King will be satisfied if he manages to train one winner at the Cheltenham Festival and he has highlighted Medermit as his best chance of securing a victory.

Medermit is currently one of three co-favourites in the Arkle Chase betting at 4/1 alongside Ghizao and Finian’s Rainbow and the quality of his jumping is a massive plus as he looks to triumph in the top two-mile novice contest.

The seven-year-old is highly thought of by King and remains unbeaten in his chase career when completing a race over the two-mile trip.

He has also won over 2m4f, which shows he should have no stamina troubles up the Cheltenham hill, although his only defeat when completing since turning to the larger obstacles was at Cheltenham, when chasing home Hell’s Bay on New Year’s Day in the Dipper Novices’ Chase.

King said: “I’m very excited by him. He has a high cruising speed, his jumping has got better with each race and he has proven stamina which I think is important in the Arkle. We’re very hopeful.”

The trainer added that the grey will have a couple of schooling sessions over the course of the next fortnight to help ensure he is in tip-top condition ahead of arriving at Cheltenham.

King is not short of other talented horses that could easily run big races at the Cheltenham Festival.

Among these is Mille Chief, who could be good value in the Champion Hurdle betting at 12/1, although the horse has to defy statistics of only one five-year-old winning the race since 1985.

Smad Place is also a fancied contender in the Cheltenham betting for the JCB Triumph Hurdle and has been given a quote of 12/1.

A £25 stake on Smad Place winning the JCB Triumph Hurdle would return £300. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
