Little Josh is a worthy ante-post favourite in the December Cheltenham Gold Cup betting market given that he has already landed a victory at the course this season.

Formerly called the Boylesports Gold Cup, but referred to as the December Gold Cup this year as no sponsor could be found, the race, not to be confused with the Cheltenham Gold Cup at the Cheltenham Festival in March, attracts a solid number of runners looking for a Grade Three Handicap success.

The Paddy Power Gold Cup, also run at Cheltenham in November, has proved a useful guide for the race in recent seasons and this makes Little Josh a leading candidate.

Little Josh is 6/1 in the Cheltenham race odds and will be looking for a quick course double after beating Dancing Tornado last month, although only three horses have ever triumphed in both races in the same season.

Dancing Tornado is set to re-oppose again on 2lb better terms and therefore may represent a decent betting opportunity at 9/1.

Poquelin was second in the Paddy Power Gold Cup last year and then went on to win the December Gold Cup.

He is expected to attempt to defend his title off top weight and is 16/1 in the ante-post Cheltenham racing betting.

In total, six of the first seven home in the Paddy Power Gold Cup could run again, with Mad Max, Great Endeavour and Sunnyhillboy looking for a quick measure of revenge.

Mad Max could gain the most at the weights and is 8/1 to win the December Gold Cup, which is the same as Great Endeavour, while Sunnyhillboy is 9/1 in the betting odds market.

Pigeon Island disappointed in the Paddy Power, but could make up for this and is 40/1 in the ante-post December Cheltenham Gold Cup odds.

A £10 bet on Little Josh winning the December Cheltenham Gold Cup would potentially return £60. New Ladbrokes customers can sign up here for a free £10 bet.
