By nightfall on July 3rd, following the last quarter final at Ellis Park in Johannesburg, we will know the four teams in the World Cup semi finals.

Just three days later, Cape Town Stadium will be the venue for the first 2010 World Cup semi final, and there are sure to be plenty of 2010 World Cup semi final betting opportunities for punters.

Recent Fifa World Cup semi-finals have not been let downs. In 2006, Germany and Italy played out a blistering encounter as the Italians won in extra time, though Portugal were unable to upset the World Cup semi final betting odds after a Zinedine Zidane penalty saw France through to the final.

Penalties separated Brazil and Holland in 1998, Lillian Thuram scored his first two international goals in the same game for France the very same year, while spot kicks were needed for both semi-finals in 1990 – as most England fans will reluctantly recall.

And when it comes to the 2010 World Cup semi final betting, it’s expected that the same regulars will be involved once again. Should Brazil and England top their respective groups and negotiate their way through the round of 16 and quarter finals, they will face each other at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, a match-up that would no doubt prompt many to bet on a World Cup semi final.

The other side of the draw could well feature two of Spain, Germany, Argentina or Italy, with all but the Spanish having tasted victory at this stage before, which will certainly be a factor in any Fifa World Cup semi final betting.

They might be ranked behind only Brazil in Fifa’s world rankings, and would no doubt be favourites in any bet on Fifa World Cup semi final, but mental strength is just as important as talent in these vital matches and there could be a question over the Spanish given their history of failures in the World Cup, though their recent Euro 2008 win might prompt many to change their minds when they bet on 2010 world cup semi final.

Which ever sides make it to the last four, you can be sure that Ladbrokes will be first with the best for semi final betting 2010 World Cup.
