Talk of mutiny and coups in the England camp have subsided as John Terry has apologised for his perceived challenge of manager Fabio Capello’s authority.

Terry had suggested during a press conference that senior England players were unhappy with Capello’s tactics, though his team-mates were quick to distance themselves from any supposed rebellion.

And as the squad prepare for their crucial final Group C fixture with Slovenia, Terry’s apology will ease the tension which has intensified among players during England’s frustrating World Cup campaign.

Capello has called on Terry to recover from his discrepancy with a big performance against Slovenia, and the Chelsea centre-back is 22/1 to score first.

With France refusing to train after Nicolas Anelka’s expulsion and Ghana struggling to quell squad unrest following Sulley Muntari’s disruptive behaviour, this is one of the most fractious World Cups in recent memory.

England appeared in risk of joining this unruly crowd, but Terry’s apology may be enough to allay fears of real turmoil in the England camp.

The players must now focus on their pivotal match with Slovenia, where England are 4/9 favourites to confirm their place in the last 16 with a win.

How costly could Terry’s comments prove? You can bet on an England player to be sent home at 8/1. See the full England Specials market.
