In the run-up to the new season, several of the world’s best players have either moved to new clubs or have been linked with big money transfers that are yet to materialise.

As ever, when the transfer window is open, fans often take to social media and forums to talk about who they would like to see at their club and which players they want to get rid of.

A number of players have grabbed all the headlines, which is unsurprising given that speculation surrounding their future has been rumbling for, in some cases, over a year.

There are always one or two transfer sagas per window that seem to go on forever – the protracted transfer of Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona from Arsenal being a prime example.

Fabregas is just one of 10 players who feature in this infographic, where the 10 most talked-about players to be linked with moves for serious amounts of money feature.

It comes as no surprise that Luis Suarez, who has made no secret of his desire to leave Liverpool, is top of the list. If his wish is granted, he could be at Arsenal very soon.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who may stay put at Real Madrid, is in second, closely followed by Wayne Rooney. Gareth Bale, another who hasn’t moved yet, is in fourth.

Interestingly, those who have left are less popular in terms of mentions online. Edinson Cavani, who now plays at Paris Saint-Germain, is only 7th, while new Tottenham star Paulinho is 8th.
