The departure of Harry Redknapp from White Hart Lane earlier in the month surprised many in the world of football and left a feeling around Spurs that an exodus could be on the cards.

It seems that first to leave could be crucial playmaker Luka Modric.

The Croatian star has long attracted the interest of some of the world’s best clubs, and indeed Tottenham managed to keep the diminutive ball-player in North London last summer despite the interests of Roman Abramovich and Chelsea.

However, it would appear that Redknapp’s decision to leave has seen the 26-year-old demand talks with Chairman Daniel Levy, in which he is expected to once again inform him of his desire to ply his trade elsewhere.

News of Modric’s wishes to turn out for a different club next season will have many of Europe’s elite preparing a bid.

The likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Man United are touted as showing an interest in the player, with an offer of somewhere in the region of £30 million likely to make Mr Levy think twice about holding on to the unhappy midfielder.

Modric was inspired for Spurs last season and he carried that form into the Euros where he was pivotal in a Croatian team that was unlucky not to progress past the group stages and played some of the best football in the competition.

It is that form that has seen Sir Alex Ferguson push to the front of the queue for the former DInamo Zagreb man as he looks to re-shape his United squad in a bid to take the Premier League trophy back from across Manchester.

The Scot is keen to add creativity to his ranks and with the signing of Shinji Kagawa confirmed earlier this week he is keen to wrap up a deal for Modric to complete his new look midfield.
