Spurs set to hijack Liverpool’s move for Swansea supremo

Swansea starlet Joe Allen has been the subject of much speculation this summer with many stories linking the Welsh international with a reunion with his ex-boss Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool.

However, Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas is also keen on the 21-year-old and could be set to dash the Reds hopes of getting their man.

Spurs believe they can secure the playmaker for as little as £10million.

It was widely suspected that the buyout clause inserted into Allen’s contract saw him priced at £20million, but it has emerged that if any club other than Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool or the two Manchester clubs make a move for the Team GB man then he can leave Wales for half of that.

The Swans were hoping that the £20 million price tag would be enough to ward off potential suitors but this revelation will have the club’s hierarchy reeling and could attract the attention of other sides in the Premier League.

The White Hart Lane team are in desperate need of creativity in midfield with Luka Modric expected to depart for Madrid before the season starts and doubts over the future of Rafael Van der Vaart.

The Portuguese manager’s first choice for his creative fulcrum was Porto’s Joao Moutinho but his current employers seem loathed to let their Euro 2012 star go and it would seem that AVB has lost patience and instead turned to an option closer to home.

Allen had a brilliant debut season in the top flight, dominating the Swansea midfield as the new boys brought a refreshing brand of passing football to the forefront of the English game.

He is currently representing Great Britain at the Olympics so any deal may be a drawn out affair but if Spurs can agree a deal they will be favourites to bag their man as tensions grown between Liverpool boss Rodgers and his former club.
