In what would be one of the more surprising moves of the summer transfer window, Real Madrid are hopeful of landing Manchester City right-back Micah Richards in a £20million deal.

Richards, who will compete for Team GB at this summer’s Olympics, is thought to be high on Jose Mourinho’s wishlist, and said to be keen on a move to the Spanish giants.

A source told reporters, “Real Madrid made contact with City a few weeks ago and Micah is waiting to see what City do, but would definitely be interested in the move.”

Indeed, it is not the first time Mourinho has expressed an interest in Richards, with the Portuguese boss attempting to sign the right-back during his Chelsea tenure.

He has tracked the athletic defender’s progress ever since, and now feels the 24-year-old is a mature enough performer to greatly aid Los Blancos’ Champions League bid this term.

The aforementioned source continued, “Jose Mourinho has always rated him and reckons he would be a great addition to his squad as they look to defend their Spanish title and try to win back the Champions League.”

The fact that Richards only recently signed a new contract with City could prove a stumbling block to any move however, along with him contributing significantly to the Citizens’ Premier League triumph last season.

That said, Richards hasn’t always been on the best of terms with his current boss Roberto Mancini, following often sporadic runs in the side during his Eastlands reign.

Mancini would be keen to retain Richards’ services in light of his versatility across the defence, but could be tempted to cash in should he receive an offer too good to refuse.

It is very possible that such a bid could come from Spain, and Richards could soon be set to exit the club he has spent his entire professional career at.
