Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is allegedly chasing Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

Fergie has said in recent days he has learnt from the mistakes he made in not finding an adequate replacement for Peter Peter Schmeichel when the Dane left United over a decade ago – and appears to believe that Reina is the answer.

United are rumoured to have acquired a reserve of £120million – largely due to the £80million sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid – and Ferguson could be given as much as £50million to spend in January.

The Daily Mail are reporting that Ferguson would be willing to spend as much as £20million on the Spaniard.

Reina is known to be unhappy at Liverpool with Roy Hodgson’s men still well off the pace at the business end of the Premier League.

However, after making bold promises when taking over Liverpool, new owner John W Henry will do everything they can to make sure the stopper stays at Anfield. Surely Manchester United is the last place he would be sold to?

Liverpool are 2/7 to beat bottom of the table Wolves in their Wednesday clash.
