Bolton Wanderers may be fifth in the league and playing the type of football more readily associated with the Emirates than the Reebok, but Owen Coyle is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

The Trotters are at 8/13 to beat Blackpool – a result that would cement their fifth place position ahead of Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite European qualification already being mentioned in hushed tones around Greater Manchester, Coyle is more concerned with avoiding relegation.

He said: “Outside of the elite clubs everyone’s aim at the start of the season is to make sure they are playing in the Premier League next season, if we can add to that then great.

“My job is to make sure this football club improves year on year – that was my aim at the start of the season and it hasn’t changed since.”

A home game against Blackpool is the sort of game Bolton should be winning whatever their aspirations. Wanderers have lost just one of their previous nine games – a 1-0 defeat against Liverpool – and have tasted defeat on home soil only three times in their last 18 matches at the Reebok.

Blackpool may be confounding the critics, but they have failed to string consecutive wins together since their return to English football’s top tier. They will struggle to do it for the first time tomorrow following their Wolves win at the weekend, after going three away games without a victory.

Bolton look well worth backing at 8/13 in what should be a hugely entertaining game. There have been 94 goals in the 28 games involving these sides this season so putting some cash on both sides to score at 4/7 may also be worth considering.
