Arsene Wenger is closing in on a deal for Malaga winger Santi Cazorla, with the Spain star expected to sign in the next 48 hours – and he’s not the only La Liga player rumoured to be heading to north London.

The Gunners are also thought to be close to signing Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin on a season-long loan.

The 23-year-old is keen to get more first team football and Wenger is confident of landing the player before the start of the season.

Meanwhile, the Cazorla deal is being helped though by Malaga’s perilous financial situation that is allowing the Gunners to squeeze them hard and get the Spanish international for a relatively cheap £17million.

If the deals go though – as they look like doing – then they represent a couple of encouraging signings for Arsenal as they look to once again be genuine title challengers.

It is also a great signal of intent to wantaway striker Robin van Persie whose future is still up in the air.

Reports from Italy yesterday suggested that he had already agreed a deal with Serie A champions Juventus although they now appear to have been a little premature.

With Arsenal keen not to sell to a Premier League rival and Van Persie allegedly not overly enthused about a move to Italy, it’s becoming more conceivable that the Dutchman will still be with the Gunners next term.

If that is the case and they can add these two creative players to their ranks then they will be a hugely safe bet at 7/10 to finish in the top four and may even be worth an outside punt to be Premier League champions at 12/1.
