A dreadful start to Lincoln City’s League Two season has seen Chris Sutton resign as manager citing personal reasons as the reason for his departure.

After guiding Lincoln to a 20th place finish in his first managerial season, 10 points adrift of the relegation zone, the imps faithful were hopeful of a season where they wouldn’t have to battle at the bottom of the league.

But with just two wins and eight points from nine games, Chris Sutton has resigned following the 0-0 draw with Burton Albion.

It comes just days after assistant manager and former team-mate Ian Pearce said Sutton would not resort to drastic measures to turnaround a dismal starts.

“The manager is a strong man and has been through plenty during his career and will draw on those experiences,” said Pearce, “I don’t think he will make any dramatic changes.”

Pearce has also left the club leaving Lincoln struggling to find somebody to take charge of their game with Southend on Saturday.

Lincoln are 10/3 to win away in Essex against a side who are three points above the Imps, and Southend are 5/6 to register their second home victory.

With Lincoln yet to keep a clean sheet in the League, whoever comes in will have to work hard on the defence and Southend are 6/1 to win 1-0.

The club has called a press conference for this evening where more light will be shed on a situation that led to a reluctant acceptance from Lincoln chairman Bob Dorrian.

Lincoln are a massive 100/1 to win League Two. See the full League Two football betting odds market here.
