Guly still needs time to settle into life in League One at Southampton
Guly could be a key addition to the Southampton squad as they look to win League One
Southampton manager Nigel Adkins has called for supporters to be patient and not expect too much too early from recent Brazilian signing Guly.
Guly stepped off the substitute’s bench at half-time to score his first Saints goal in the 1-1 draw at Yeovil, while almost endearing himself to fans further when his shot struck the post in the dying seconds.
Adkins understands the talent that Guly has at his disposal, but knows the importance of helping him settle into life in the south of England after spending numerous years in Brazil, Portugal and Italy.
The former Scunthorpe manager told the Daily Echo: “It’s going to be very difficult – he doesn’t know the language, he’s come to a different country, a different environment and it would be hard for anybody to settle in and we need to allow him the time to do that.
“He’s obviously a quality player with where he’s come from and we’ve got to allow him that time.”
Southampton have taken five points from their last three League One games under Adkins, which has helped them take some small strides up the table.
They are 5/1 to win League One despite being 11 points behind Brighton and will be relying on more goals from Guly, Rickie Lambert and David Connolly to achieve this feat.
One problem they will quickly need to rectify is sorting out their home form, as Southampton have failed to win any of their four league games at St Mary’s this season.
They host local rivals Bournemouth next, who are second in League One at present and are 8/11 to take the three points, while the visitors are 7/2 to beat Southampton.
Southampton have already beaten Bournemouth at home this season after claiming a 2-0 victory in the first round of the Carling Cup. See the whole Southampton vs Bournemouth match betting odds market.
